Burglary Alarm Systems

Imagine coming home after a hard day's work to find your house ransacked, and all of your valuables gone. Your home is supposed to be your castle, but it sure doesn't feel that way when someone comes into your house and steals everything you own. Unfortunately, home break-ins are becoming more common. This is why you must find ways to keep your family safe. One way to reduce the likelihood of your home being robbed is to invest in a burglary alarm system.

Sadly, not all break-ins happen while you're away; some criminals are bold enough to invade your home while you are still inside. These types of home invasions can easily end in tragedy for you or someone you love. Burglary alarms not only protect your valuables when you're away from home, they give your family piece of mind when they are relaxing at the house.

HOW DO BURGLARY ALARMS WORK?

Burglary alarms use sensors on doors, windows, and anywhere else would-be-robbers can easily gain entry to your home. These alarm sensors are electronically designed to alert home owners of intruders. Burglary alarms sensors are connected to a control unit by a low-voltage or narrowband RF signal. Burglary alarms also use motion sensors in rooms. Motion sensors are infrared (PIR) and are capable of detecting body heat. These alarms are setoff when motion is detected in the room.

When someone tries to break into your home via a window or door, the alarm is tripped and a signal immediately notifies police of a potential break-in. Not only will emergency responders be notified, the tripped wire sets off a loud alarm siren that radiates through the neighborhood and scares the robbers away.

A newly installed burglary alarm takes some getting used to. There will be times when you or your family members will forget the alarm is activated and accidentally set it off. You get a certain number of times to accidentally trip the alarm before you're fined a fee by local authorities.

Once you get accustomed to having the alarm system in your home, disarming it before you open doors and windows becomes second nature. However, be careful not to trip the alarm too many times because police may not be as quick to respond, and neighbors will start to ignore the alarm when it goes off.

TYPES OF BURGLARY ALARM SYSTEMS

There are many types of burglary alarm systems on the market. They range from basic run-of-the-mill small, self-contained systems to complex multi-zoned systems with all the bells and whistles. Some burglary alarms are multipurpose and can monitor for both home security, and fire safety. Some security systems are equipped with panic buttons that can be used to set off the alarm in emergency situations. Other burglary alarm features can include external strobe lights, keychain remote control, and a phone auto-dialer.

Homeowners can choose between wireless, or hard-wired security systems. Wireless alarms have battery powered parts, and can be installed without cutting into the walls. Wireless alarms also offer more freedom for sensor placement. To keep the wireless alarm working properly, the batteries need to be changed periodically. Hard-wired burglary alarm systems run off of electricity. These alarms take longer to install because they require cutting into the walls, and wire routing throughout the house.

Choosing a security system can be difficult, but your installer will work with you to help you select an alarm that is within your budget, and suitable for your family's needs.

HOW TO CHOOSE A BURGLARY ALARM COMPANY

Some things to ask a company before having an alarm installed include: how long has your company been in business? Does the company provide 24-hour monitoring? Is the system guaranteed to work during power outages? How experienced are the technicians, and are they required to undergo criminal background checks?

Burglar alarm companies monitor your home remotely using phone lines and computers. These companies have access to a lot of your personal security details, so you want to make sure they are legitimate. So never disclose your personal information to a company or any of its representatives before you have checked into the history of the company.

Investing in a quality burglary alarm system will give you peace of mind and help you sleep peacefully knowing you've done everything you can to secure your home and family from intruders.
